For more information about any aspect of the clinic, please contact Elisa Ballard, email: firstname.lastname@example.org, phone: 571-309-8932 (c).
Paw Print Genetics will be on site Tuesday through Friday (Friday until 12:00 noon) to assist you with your order and to take cheek swab samples on your dog. You are also encouraged to create an account at https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/ and enter your dogs that you need tested prior to coming to Potomac. You do not need to complete your order, as you can do that at the show to receive the show discounts. For specific information about DNA testing, you can contact Paw Print Genetics at AskUs@pawprintgenetics.com.
No appointments are necessary for the DNA clinic, but participants are encouraged to get their testing done early in the week to avoid delays. Only a limited number of kits will be available at the show. Special pricing will be available at the show and for one week after the show. All DNA testing will be done by cheek swabs; fast and painless. Dogs must not have food for one (1) hour prior to testing. This includes treats or bait. You will receive results in your Paw Print Genetics account about two weeks after the show. Test results are strictly confidential and will be uploaded to the owner's Paw Print Genetics account. Credit/debit cards, checks and cash are all acceptable forms of payment
To avoid mistakes, missing information and confusion, you are encouraged to complete your Heart Exam forms online before coming to Potomac, so that you can print them and bring them to the clinic.
To schedule an echocardiogram, please download and complete the OFA form and bring it with you to the clinic. Then, simply use the online form below to pre-register and make payment, (PayPal accounts OR all major credit cards accepted). We will call you when the judging schedule has been published to set up an appointment. Discounts are offered for all tests, but require pre-registration and prepayment.

Support Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia Research
Canine researchers have taken a big step toward identifying the gene that causes the most common heart condition in Labrador Retrievers, tricuspid valve dysplasia (TVD). Having located the chromosome that contains the defective gene, the scientists now are working to isolate the gene so a genetic test can be developed for determining dogs that are carriers.
Kathy Wright, D.V.M., a canine cardiologist and her team of scientists at the Comparative Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory in the Division of Cardiology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, have studied 234 Labrador Retrievers with TVD during the past two years. The dogs represent 12 different bloodlines.
The first major discovery by the team was learning that CFA 9 is the chromosome housing the gene causing this serious and sometimes life-threatening heart condition in Labs. "Isolating the specific gene in that region of CFA 9 is the next step," Wright says. "Once that is accomplished, a DNA test can be developed for that genetic mutation."
Potentially, in the future, breeders will be able to take dogs to the veterinarian for a simple blood test to determine whether they carry the condition. This will help breeders make informed breeding decisions and reduce the incidence of TVD in Labrador Retrievers.
Needless to say, these researchers need our help. Together with the AKC Canine Health Foundation, the Top 20 Foundation and the LRCP, we are seeking to raise funds for this important research. 100% of all donations will go to the AKC Canine Health Foundation to support TVD research. Can you find it in your heart to help protect the hearts of our beloved Labradors? Please consider a donation today.
And keep up to date on TVD research and follow us on Facebook for more details.
Remember: 100% of all donations will go to the AKC Canine Health Foundation to support TVD research.

Obedience & Rally Welcome
The LRCP is pleased to host four indoor obedience and four indoor rally trials in conjunction with the Potomac again this year. On Tuesday, April 12th, and Wednesday, April 13th the day will start with an obedience trial which will then be followed by a rally trial. These trials will be judged by Ted G. McCall. On Thursday, April 14th and Friday, April 15th the obedience and rally trials will be held simultaneously with some of the obedience classes being held in each of the two rings (consult the judging program for more details). These trials will be judged by Nancy K. Withers and Jean Nocilly. New this year, the Beginner Novice obedience class is being offered all four days; and as in the past, the veteran's obedience class will be held on Friday, April 15th (who doesn't love watching the veterans perform?). Also on Friday, the LRCP obedience challenge trophies are offered for competition in certain obedience classes.
Additionally, the Club will host an indoor Sanctioned Obedience 'C' ('open ring time') Match on Monday, April 11th with registration from noon until 2:00 p.m. There is a $10.00 fee (cash or check) per dog for the "C" match collected ring side at registration. Note: Rally exercises may be practiced during your 'time in the ring', but no rally courses will be set up for this match. This obedience match is open to anyone with a Labrador wishing to participate. Come join us for a fun start to Potomac 2016! Hint: This is a great time to come set up your crate(s) and chair to 'hold your space' for the rest of the week of obedience and rally trials.
All of the obedience and rally trials, as well as the obedience match, will be held at Breakaway Action Dogs, Inc., 900 E. Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701, (see link below for directions); this facility is approximately 3 miles from the conformation show site. If you don't want to move your vehicle from the conformation show site, a courtesy shuttle to transport you and your dog to and from the obedience/rally venue is available with advanced notice.
Not entered in obedience or rally? Do take the time to make the short trip over to Breakaway Action Dogs, Inc., to watch some outstanding obedience and rally performances by our wonderfully versatile Labradors.
If you have any questions, or wish to make transportation arrangements between the conformation show site and the obedience/rally trial site, please contact Cindy Harbaugh on 240-446-1383 or by email at email@example.com
