Judges' Education At Potomac*
The LRCP is pleased to present a judges' education seminar for judges and those interested in becoming a judge on Monday, April 11 with Dr. Michael Woods (Waterdog) and Clare White-Peterson. The seminar will consist of three separate sessions. The first session begins at 8:00 AM Monday morning in the Hotel Ballroom with a classroom presentation "The labrador Retriever" by Dr. Michael Woods. The second session, Monday afternoon, will be limited to twenty five (25) participants and will be a hands-on examination of labradors. The third session on Tuesday will be ring-side mentoring. Each Monday session will cost $25 and will include morning muffins and coffee. Tuesday's mentoring session will be free, but participants must register in advance for planning purposes. Lunch may be purchased both days at the Hotel Concession in the Atrium. Participants are asked to complete the following form and make payment using the Paypal button. The LRCP is delighted to present an exciting two-track canine health and reproduction seminar and trade show on Monday, April 11. Track one will feature veterinary expert speakers in the areas of Exercise Induced Collapse, Tickborne Diseases, Vaccination Protocols, OFA, CHIC and Puppy Diarrhea. Track two will focus on reproductive issues such as Ovulation Timing, Collection of Semen for Extension and Shipping, Artificial Insemination and a Roundtable Forum for Questions and Answers. Speakers will include Dr. Fran Smith, Board Certified Theriogenologist and President of the OFA, Dr. R. Scott Dove whose special interests include Reproduction, Acupuncture, Massage and Chiropractic, and Dr. Valeria Rickard with interests in Reproduction, and owner handler of multiple AKC Champion Airedales. Dr Eric Altom from Eukanuba will provide two miniseminars on “What the Dog Food Label Really Means” and “GI Stress, Pre and Pro biotics”.
Merial will be sponsoring one of the seminars, a seminar break and have an informational booth available for all attendees with information on exciting new products. OFA will also sponsor a seminar, with OFA personnel available to answer your questions about OFA and CHIC.

Juniors at Potomac - “Retrieving for the Future!”
The Club is delighted to announce a program of special events for Junior Handlers attending the Potomac Specialty in 2011. Plan to attend a social in the Hotel Atrium on Tuesday, April 12, to meet the competition and receive your show assignments for the week. And get ready for the big night Wednesday in the Hotel Ballroom where Mrs. Catherine DiGiacomo will judge and choose the Best Junior. And if you survive that, we are planning a Junior Handler Training Seminar on Thursday evening. All Juniors ages 9 - 18 are welcome whether you are competing or not.

Health Clinics
The LRCP is pleased to offer heart exams, Optigen tests and EIC testing for your dogs at Potomac 2011. Cardiologist Dr. Luis Braz-Ruivo. DVM, DVSc DACVIM will be available to perform Ausculation with echocardiogram with color doppler. Please download the flyer below for complete details including information for registration and prepayment.
To schedule an Optigen, EIC or DDC test, please go to the appropriate organization web site (Optigen (BKXi414), University of Minnesota VDL or DNA Diagnostics Center) to pre-register and make payment. To sehedule an echocardiogram, please download and complete the OFA form and bring it with you to the clinic. Then, simply use the Paypal button below and include your cell phone number when asked. We will call you when the judging schedule has been published to set up an appointment. Discounts are offered for all tests, but require pre-registration and prepayment.
Canine Good Citizen & Therapy Dog International Testing & Certification
The LRCP is pleased to offer testing and certification for Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International. What a wonderful treat for you and your dog and everyone you meet! I speak from personal experience - check it out! All testing will be done indoors by pre-registration and every passing team will receive a rosette! CGC is $15 and TDI is $20. OR, both CGC and TDI individual certification for the same team for $25. (This gives the option for CGC certificate from AKC along with awards for both levels) Registration closes April 6 with a limit of 20 dogs. Testing will be done from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 13th.
Things to bring: Dog's registration name & number(if you have one - dog is not required to be registered) Birth date/age. Proof of rabies & county registration. Buckle collar and your dog's brush. Don't forget the dog :)

Obedience & Rally Welcome
The Club is please to host four obedience and four rally trials at Potomac this year. Additionally, the Club will host timed run thru's on Monday for anyone wishing to participate. Please pre-register for the run thrus by downloading the following form and mailing it to Linda Surmacz. Deadline for registering for the run thrus is April 6. Please join us for a fun start to Potomac 2011!!
Obedience limits for run-thru's will be 15 and Rally limits for run-thu's will be 22.

RV Parking
Exhibitors wishing to park a motor home or recreational vehicle at the Holiday Inn must agree to abide by the following "Rules, Regulations and User Agreement" and must make advance reservations and pay the applicable fees. The LRCP gratefully acknowledges the efforts of Penny Kretchmer who has volunteered to coordinate motor home/RV parking for the 2011 show. Please note that all RV parking will be assigned by Penny who has the full blessing and authority of the Club to make these decisions. Your cooperation is appreciated. Towed vehicles may be claimed at Henry's Towing in Fairfax, Virginia.
Vendors and Concessions
Vendors wishing to participate at the 2011 Potomac Specialty should contact the Vendor Chair, Jodi Riley at applemtlabs@yahoo.com or 717-677-0140 for information. Space is extremely limited and returning vendors are given preference. Vendors who participated at the 2010 show will receive contracts and show information in late January. Please download and read all of the documents below before contacting the Jodi. Returning vendors must complete the registration process and make payment not later than February 15, 2011. This is the functional equivalent of the NFL Pre-Game Show, with cheerleaders and crazy beer ads and pizza party when it's all over:

Working Certificate Test
The LRCP is pleased to host a Working Certificate Test at 10:00 AM, Sunday, April 10, at Belquest Kennels, 18745 Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771. Birds will be ducks and only single marks will be used at this test. The judge is Fred Perini. All qualifiers will receive a rosette and a Certificate at the completition of the test.
Test Requirements:
1. A land single of a shot bird over a distance of approximately 50 yards in light cover.
2. Back-to-back singles in the water. One bird should be retrieved in swimming water if possible.
3. The dog is not required to be steady or to deliver to hand, however, the judge(s) may designate an area for delivery.
4. The dog should not be gun shy.
Note: Bitches in season may not run.
Entry fee $30. Entries close April 8th, at 6:00 PM and are limited to the first 40 labradors entered. Entries may be made online using the online entry form and Paypal button below. Alternately, you may download the entry form and fax it or mail it to the Show Secretary. Checks (U.S. Funds) should be payable to LRCP, Inc.
